ALCOHOL INK ON GEL PLATE

Alcohol ink on a gel plate is a popular mixed-media printmaking technique that combines the fluid, translucent properties of alcohol inks with the flexible surface of a gelli plate. Because alcohol ink is highly fluid and evaporates quickly, it behaves differently on a gel plate than heavy acrylic paints. Instead of pulling the ink directly onto paper while wet, artists usually let the ink dry on the plate and use a "pickup layer" of acrylic paint to transfer the design.
